これだけでは古代ギリシアの故事を知らないと意味がわかりません。

この文で出てきたので、頭の上に剣が吊るされている
つまり、傍目にはそう見えないものの危機的な状況にある
だろうと判りました。
ダモクレスの剣の故事はヨーロッパ文化圏では皆知っていることなのかもしれないですね。
